Innocence Project of Minnesota Official Statement:
The Innocence Project of Minnesota stands for justice. Together with you, we serve the innocent who are wrongly convicted and incarcerated. We strive to make the justice system fairer to prevent such injustices.
George Floyd was suspected of passing a counterfeit bill, but instead of having the opportunity to proclaim and defend his innocence within our justice system, a Minneapolis Police Officer killed him while other officers watched. We stand with George Floyd's family and friends, and with all who seek justice for George and for other people (especially people of color and indigenous people) negatively affected by our broken system.
In the wake of George's death, we've all been struggling with grief – the shock, anger, sadness, and fear that it manifests. Words hardly seem adequate, but silence is not acceptable. We will not accept the status quo. Things need to change. Our community and our country need healing.
Our hearts are heavy, but we know that together we can maintain hope for a better future. With your energy and support, we will keep working with other people and organizations to achieve meaningful reforms that propel the cause of justice. From all of us at the Innocence Project of Minnesota, thank you for being part of the innocence movement. To read more click HERE.
