The Mary Ann Key Book Club is a book club organized by the Hennepin County Library, and is a collaboration with Star Tribune columnist Myron Medcalf. The book club is named after Mr. Medcalf’s great-great-great grandmother who was enslaved in 1850s Georgia. The book club uses reading as a catalyst for conversation as they attempt to better understand past and current injustices – including systemic racism, other forms of discrimination, and bias that affects marginalized communities.
For the 6th season, Hennepin County Library and community members will be reading The Sun Does Shine by Anthony Ray Hinton, a memoir about the wrongful conviction and 28-year incarceration of Mr. Hinton. The library is pleased to host Mr. Hinton in conversation with Myron Medcalf on Thursday, April 25, 6:30 p.m. at Minneapolis Central Library.
The Great North Innocence Project will also host a table at the event to share more about our work and how community members can contribute to improving the criminal legal system and freeing the innocent.
